MAILBOXES

Post Height:
Measuring from bottom of the mailbox to the point where the post meets the surface (does not include the measurement of the post in the ground) should be 45 inches.
Set Back: Measure 14 feet from the centerline of the road to the face of the mailbox. The Highway Department uses the guideline when replacing mailboxes after road construction.

The Highway Department also recommends that Town Residents who have distinctive or expensive mailboxes replace it with inexpensive model during the winter months. This recommendation also is suggested for residents who have plastic mailboxes. These particular mailboxes become brittle in the cold weather and when the snow can break the mailbox. (The fact is that the weight of the snow, especially when wet, comes off the plow with such weight and force that it can damage or break a mailbox and/or post.) Sub-zero weather can make the mailboxes and poles brittle and when the snow hits them they can shatter.
