Duties:
To locate, identify, and
value real property in the town for the purpose of distributing taxes, in
accordance with the "real property tax law" of the State of New York
Administer and process exemptions, the most common types are:
veteran, enhanced star (seniors over 65), star, clergy, business, railroad, agriculture building, and forest
Wholly Exempt:
Exemptions for religious, educational, municipal owned properties, state and federally owned properties, and free district property
Important Dates
March 1st:
Taxable status day - property values of conditions & ownership. Also the date all exemptions must be filed with the assessor's office.
May 1st:
The completion of tentative assessment roll. Assessor shall complete & file this role with the town clerk.
Grievance Day:
The 1st Wednesday after the 4th Tuesday in May...10 days prior to assessor shall mail a change in assessment to the property owner. Board of assessment review meet to hear complaints relating to assessments.
July 1st:
Completion of final role. Upon completion of the final role it is filed with the town clerk.
